元旦的由來(雙語)

Far and away the most important holiday in China is Spring Festival, also known as the Chinese New Year. To the Chinese people it is as important as Christmas to people in the West. The dates for this annual celebration are determined by the lunar calendar rather than the Gregorian calendar, so the timing of the holiday varies from late January to early February.

To the ordinary Chinese, the festival actually begins on the eve of the lunar New Year's Day and ends on the fifth day of the first month of the lunar calendar. But the 15th of the first month, which normally is called the Lantern Festival, means the official end of the Spring Festival in many parts of the country.

總的來說在中國最重要的節日是春節,亦稱中國新年。對中國人民來說它的重要性就如方聖誕節對於西方人民。這個一年一次的節日日期取決於陰曆而不是格里曆，因此假日的時間變化從一月下旬到上旬2月。對普通的中國人，節日總是在除夕夜開始,結束於陰曆的第一個月的第五天。 但1第一個月的15號，通常稱燈會，在國家的大部分地區意味春節的正式結尾。

"Guo Nian," meaning "passing the year," is the common term among the Chinese people for celebrating the Spring Festival. It actually means greeting the New Year. At midnight at the turn of the old and New Year, people used to let off fire-crackers which serve to drive away the evil spirits and to greet the arrival of the New Year. In an instant the whole city would be engulfed in the deafening noise of the firecrackers.

“過年”意義爲“度過這一年”，是中國百姓慶祝春節的共同術語。它事實上意味着歡迎新的一年。在新舊年交替的午夜，百姓習慣的放會趕走怪物的煙火，並且歡迎新年的到來。在那一瞬間，整個城市都響徹爆竹的震耳欲聾的聲音。

　英國元旦的由來

在英國，公曆元旦雖沒有聖誕節那樣隆重，但在除夕夜和元旦，還是根據當地的風俗勻慣開展種種慶祝活動，以示送舊迎新。英國人在除夕的深夜，常帶上糕點和酒出去拜訪，他們不敲門，就徑直走進親友家去。按英國人的風俗，除夕千夜過後，朝屋裏邁進第一隻腳的人，預示着新的一年的運氣。如果第一個客人是個黑髮的男人，或是個快樂、幸福而富裕的人，主人就將全年吉利走好運。如果第一個客人是個淺黃頭髮的女人，或是個憂傷、貧窮、不幸的人，主人在新的一年中將遭黴運，會遇上困難和災禍。除夕在親友家作客的人，在未交談前，要先去撥弄壁爐的火，祝福主人“開門大吉”。英國的新年慶祝活動大都在除夕火夜舉行，“迎新宴會”，便是其中之，這種宴會分“家庭宴會”和“團體宴會”兩種，宴會通常從除夕晚上8時開始中直至元旦凌晨結束。宴會上備有各種美酒佳餚和點心，供人們通宵達量地開懷暢飲。午夜時分，人們打開收音機，聆聽教堂大鐘的新年鐘聲，鐘聲鳴響時，人們一片歡騰，舉杯祝酒，盡情歡呼，高歌《往昔的日光》。“除夕舞會”則是另一種慶祝活動。由當地的旅館和舞會，夜幕降臨。人們身着節日盛裝，從四面八方傑到這些裝飾一新的燈光輝煌的舞場，在美妙的樂聲中翩翩起舞，成千上萬的人羣，還雲集到各個廣場，圍繞着廣場中心的噴泉和厄洛斯神象，載歌載舞，盡情狂歡。電視臺還在廣場做現場直播，讓在這家“守歲”的人也共享歡樂。
